Pest Control for Restaurant Owners

Restaurants that have a consistent client base will usually have some form of pest control.Restaurant owners who want to create a safe, healthy environment will typically have a regular pest control service routine. Restaurant owners, in Arizona for example, would look up a simple term like “Phoenix pest control” to find an extermination company.

The restaurant owner should first have an inspection of the building completed. The inspector will come in and check out the various hiding places through the building and identify any pest problems or signs of pest invasion.

This is the time to ask the pest control expert about the right sanitation techniques to use in between visits from the pest control technicians.

In terms of security, they will tell you what parts of the building need to be more secure as far as baseboards, window seals and door jambs.

The three most common pests are flies, rodents and roaches, at least in terms of restaurant locations. As long as you have the proper control, then these pests will not cause trouble or a loss of business.

Restaurants often have roach bait traps set throughout the building to help control the number of pests that make their way inside. Problem areas in walls or behind large equipment are controlled using insecticide dust or foam. It’s worth considering using a liquid insecticide as well inside the restaurant to ensure that all corners are sprayed, as long as it’s a low pressure sprayer being used.

Flies can be incredibly annoying for your restaurant guests and will scare away business faster than anything. The main parts of the restaurant that should be regularly cleaned are the garbage cans, sinks, drains and the floors. Water standing in a particular location for any length of time might also be a problem.

You could also try to reduce their numbers by placing fly bait traps in the main thoroughfares. Make sure the sinks and drains are kept clean to keep flies from breeding in these areas.

Mice and rats can shut a restaurant down quicker than anything. The only way to fight these pests effectively is to find their entry points. Make sure you keep all the trash areas picked up and clean so the rats won’t be unnecessarily attracted inside.

If you place bait stations around the perimeter of the restaurant, this could help catch them before the make it inside. A major pest problem can be prevented by keeping the mice or rats from entering the restaurant in the first place.

Make sure whatever the routine you set up with the pest control expert is consistent because then it will be the most effective. A professional pest control expert will not only take care of the work for you, but also understand what to expect during certain times of the year and maintain a secure perimeter around the building. With prevention like this, you can ensure that your restaurant stays clean, successful and pest free.
